High Climbers and Timber Fallers

High Climbers and Timber Fallers, captures the final days of old-growth logging in Mendocino County, northern California – from the mid 1970’s to the latter 1990’s.

Those were the good old days. They really were. The economy was strong, jobs were plentiful and the pay was fair. A working man could afford to buy a home, and new pick-up truck on wages. A hundred dollar bill would feed a family for a week, and a routine visit to the doctor, for a couple of stitches, was under $40. I’m here to tell, life couldn’t have been better for the American working man and his family.

Those were also the days of 35 mm cameras and film photography. My preferred choice of films in the day was Kodachrome. Paul Simon wrote a happy song about Kodachrome film having “nice bright colors.” Remember that? For old-tech Kodachrome film worked really well, and it’s what made this book.

Through the pages of High Climbers and Timber Fallers you’ll be following me through the lens of my old Nikon camera over 50 years ago in coastal northern California’s timber industry.

This book chronicles an era in Mendocino County logging history by capturing the timber fallers, rigging slingers, high climbers, logging boss’s, and some really big old redwoods. The last old-growth redwoods still standing in the corporate timber-lands of Mendocino County.

Under the front cover is a 2 page map of Mendocino County.

No other work captures the end of this magnificent era on the west coast. High Climbers is a one-of-a-kind, and for only $40.00, plus shipping, it’s a bargain.

Local logging history at its finest. High Climbers makes a great gift!
