About the Author

From Tiny Seed

For a sense of scale in these natural settings I often place subjects somewhere in the scenes. Perspectives vary. Some people feel these natural settings are better without any people. So you understand. . . what you see in these examples is what’s in the book, and much more.

PRAIRIE CREEK & REDWOOD NATIONAL PARKS

These two old-growth redwood parks are nestled along the coast of northern California in Humboldt County, between the towns of Orick and Klamath.

As coastal redwood parks go in California the groves here are cool and damp. Under-story species are strong: shrubs, perennial herbs, ferns, mosses, lichens and fungi… you name it, it’s abundant in the coastal habitat. Prairie Creek is a real redwood jungle.

Here the bark on the younger redwoods is dark chocolate brown, and most older trees are covered with gray lichen and moss. Giving the groves a darker look and feeling. Almost haunting. The forest aerosols in this park are strong on the riparian. A rich mixture of vine maple, current, hedge nettles and redwood.

Redwood National Park is located next door in Lost Man and Redwood Creeks. RNP was established nearly 50 years after Prairie Creek. So the local history between the two parks is markedly different. And I’m here to tell the story about RNP is a real doozy.

Between these two parks there’s 120 miles of trail and over 300 dedicated groves, which should be enough, I’d think, to keep a hiker going for at least 2 weeks.

Understand, this is not just a picture book about the redwoods. This is the story about Prairie Creek Redwoods and Redwood National Park. What I show and tell about these two parks you will not find in any other books, anywhere else. I guarantee it.

Prairie Creek Redwoods is a hardcover book, forest green in color, with a foil stamp title on front and spine. Big 9 x 12 inches, 168 pages. Over 500 full-color images. Plus 8 aerial-view maps, replete with road and trail overlays, access points, trail-heads and distances. I pride myself on the maps of these parks, as you will not find better maps anywhere. And for lasting protection this book comes with a durable 100# glossy, full-color dust Jacket.

Between the covers of this book is everything you need to know about where to go and what to expect in these parks, as well the greater surrounding area of northern Humboldt County.
